Silver Crucible Description
Silver Crucible is made from high-purity and high-performance silver metal with superior heat transfer properties and high corrosion resistance, ensuring even and efficient heating. It is designed to withstand extreme temperatures, ensuring durability and precision in melting, alloying, and other high-performance processes. Commonly used in laboratories, research, and industrial settings, our silver crucibles provide reliable performance for high-temperature testing and metal processing. Heeger Metal can supply high-precision silver crucibles with various specifications and customized solutions to suit industrial and research applications, ensuring optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
Silver Crucible Advantages
- High Thermal Conductivity: Silver has excellent thermal conductivity, allowing for rapid and uniform heating, which is essential for precise melting and reactions.
- Corrosion Resistance: Silver is resistant to corrosion, especially against alkaline solvents and many acids, making it durable and reliable for repeated use.
- Non-reactive in Many Processes: Silver is non-reactive with most substances at high temperatures, ensuring that it does not contaminate the samples being processed.
- High Melting Point: With a melting point of 960°C, silver crucibles can withstand the high temperatures required for many metallurgical and chemical processes.
- Malleability: Silver is malleable, which makes it easy to manufacture crucibles of various shapes and sizes, catering to specific needs.
- Durability: Silver crucibles are known for their long-lasting durability, especially when handled and maintained properly.
Key Precautions for Proper Use of Silver Crucibles
- The melting point of silver is 960°C, and the operating temperature should not exceed 700°C. It should not be heated directly over an open flame.
- Silver crucibles have good resistance to alkaline solvents (sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide) and can be used with caustic alkalis as solvents. However, the sample dissolution time should not exceed 30 minutes.
- In the molten state, salts formed by metals such as zinc, tin, lead, and mercury will make the silver crucible brittle, so samples containing these compounds should not be treated in a silver crucible.
- Silver crucibles should not be used to decompose or melt sulfur-rich samples, as silver easily reacts with sulfur to form silver sulfide.
- Silver dissolves easily in acids, so after leaching the molten material, the crucible should be cleaned with a small amount of nitric acid (1+20) or hydrochloric acid (1+5).
- Do not heat or dissolve substances of unknown composition in a silver crucible.
- High-temperature heating should not come into contact with any other metals (such as iron plates or electric stoves). When placing the crucible in a high-temperature furnace, ensure that it does not touch the electric elements.
- New silver crucibles should be roasted in a muffle furnace at 300-400°C and then cleaned with hot dilute hydrochloric acid.
- Silver crucibles are suitable for melting samples with NaOH as a flux, but should not be used with Na2CO3 as a flux.
- Silver crucibles should not be used for precipitating sulfur or roasting sulfur compounds.
Silver Crucible Applications
- High-Temperature Melting: Silver crucibles are ideal for melting and processing high-purity metals, such as gold, platinum, and other precious metals, in laboratory settings.
- Chemical Reactions: They are used in chemical analysis, particularly for reactions that require stable, non-reactive containers at high temperatures.
- Synthesis of Special Alloys: Silver crucibles are used for the synthesis of specific metal alloys under controlled conditions.
- Sample Decomposition: They are employed in various sample decomposition processes, such as when using fluxes like sodium hydroxide to break down solid samples for analysis.
- Heat Treatment: In materials science, silver crucibles are used for heat treatments of metals or compounds under high temperatures.
Silver Crucible Packaging
Silver Crucible is carefully placed in wooden cases or cartons with additional soft materials to support and prevent shifting during transportation. This packaging method guarantees the integrity of the products throughout the delivery process.
