Hafnium Plate/Sheet/Disc

Hafnium (Hf) is a lustrous, silver-gray transition metal with a very high melting point (2230°C) and high density (13.31 g/cm3). Hafnium Plate/Sheet/Disc is made of high-purity hafnium metal or its alloy, exhibiting excellent resistance to high temperatures, corrosion, and radiation. Its high melting point and good mechanical strength make it stable and reliable in extreme environments. HM can supply high-quality hafnium and hafnium alloy plates, sheets, and discs with various specifications for multiple applications.

Hafnium Plate/Sheet/Disc Production Process

  • Preparation of Raw Materials: selection of high-purity hafnium raw materials
  • Melting: melting the hafnium feedstock at high temperatures, usually under vacuum or inert gas protection.
  • Casting: the molten hafnium is introduced into a mold and cooled into a hafnium ingot.
  • Hot Rolling: the hafnium ingot is heated to the appropriate temperature and then hot rolled, gradually thinning it into sheets.
  • Cold Rolling: the hot-rolled hafnium sheet is cold rolled to improve its surface quality and dimensional accuracy further.
  • Annealing: Hafnium plates are annealed in a vacuum or under inert gas to remove internal stresses and improve material properties.

Hafnium Plate/Sheet/Disc Surface Finish

Depending on the intended applications, hafnium plates, sheets, and discs have three main surface finishes as follows:

  • Black: The surface is “as swaged” or “as drawn”, retaining a coating of processing lubricants and oxides.
  • Cleaned: The surface is chemically cleaned to remove all lubricants and oxides.
  • Ground: The surface is centerless to remove all coating and achieve precise dimensions control.

Hafnium Plate/Sheet/Disc Applications

  • Nuclear Industry: Hafnium has excellent neutron absorption and is commonly used in nuclear reactors’ control rods and protection devices.
  • Electronic Materials: Hafnium is used to manufacture cathodes for X-ray tubes and electrodes for high-voltage discharge tubes because of its good electron-emitting properties.
  • Aerospace: Hafnium’s high-temperature oxidation and high-temperature resistance make it ideal for use in manufacturing rocket nozzles and spacecraft shielding materials.

Hafnium Plate/Sheet/Disc Packaging

The Hafnium Plate/Sheet/Disc is carefully placed in wooden cases or cartons with additional support from soft materials to prevent any shifting during transportation. This packaging method guarantees the integrity of the products throughout the delivery process.
